Hartmut Michel, (born July 18, 1948, Ludwigsburg, W.Ger.), German biochemist who, along with Johann Deisenhofer and Robert Huber, received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1988 for their determination of the structure of certain proteins that are essential for photosynthesis.
Michel earned his doctorate from the University of Würzburg in 1977. In 1979 he joined the staff of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, W.Ger., where he conducted his award-winning research. He became head of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt am Main in 1987.
It was Michel's preliminary work, done in the period from 1978 to 1982, that cleared the way for the three scientists' joint research. They wanted to determine the three-dimensional structure of a four-protein complex (called a photosynthetic reaction centre) that is crucial to the process of photosynthesis in certain bacteria. Michel performed the hitherto impossible feat of crystallizing the membrane-bound protein complex to a pure crystalline form, thus making it possible to determine the protein's structure atom-by-atom by means of X-ray diffraction techniques.
Dr. Q. Ping Dou is Professor of Oncology, Pharmacology and Pathology, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI, USA. Dr. Dou obtained his B.S. degree in chemistry from Shandong University (PR China) in 1981, Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Rutgers University in 1988, and postdoctoral training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School from 1988 to 1993 (Mentor: Arthur B. Pardee). Dr. Dou has extensive experience in the fields of drug discovery, chemoprevention, natural products, proteasome inhibitors, cell cycle and apoptosis. He has published ~200 peer-reviewed research and review articles, many of those in journals of the highest quality, and also holds ~10 patents. He has extensive experience in professional service, including various study sections, several advisory and editorial boards, and committees. He has mentored numerous graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty.

Dr. Debomoy Lahiri is Professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, USA. His major research focus is to understand the mechanism of aging, origin and biogenesis of the amyloid plaque, and to discover drug targets for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other brain disorders. Dr. Lahiri's group has shown the novel role of specific microRNA species in regulation of genes implicated in AD as well as the role of gene and environment interaction in late-life disorders. Also, his team has made significant contributions to understanding the biochemical pathway for neurodevelopment disorders, such as autism and fragile X syndrome. Dr. Lahiri is the Editor-In-Chief of the international journal, 'Current Alzheimer Research' (Bentham). He authored books, such as 'Protective Strategies for Neurodegenerative Diseases' published by the New York Academy of Sciences. Dr. Lahiri was awarded grants as a Principal Investigator from the National Institute on Aging, NIH, and Alzheimer's Association, USA. His other honors include the 'Zenith Award' and listing in Marquis' 'Who's Who in the World'.
