Can Digital Health Help Reduce the Cost of Drugs?
Ian Chiang, Partner, Flare Capital Partners
Retail drug spending has increased from ~$90 per capita to ~$1,150 per capita, in 2021. This trend is unlikely to slow down due to numerous high-cost specialty drugs (e.g., gene therapies) and other blockbusters (e.g., GLP-1s). In this panel, we will discuss Digital Health's role in helping to control costs while maximizing quality and outcomes. We will explore ways digital health companies can partner with incumbents (e.g., payers, PBMs) and the unmet market needs that digital health could (or could not) solve. We will explore the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act’s Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program.
